KBDI Channel 12 (PBS affiliate) shows “Islam vs. Islamists”

September 15, 2007

A while back I wrote a post criticizing PBS for not showing “Islam vs. Islamists: Voices From The Muslim Center”. PBS released the documentary to Oregon Public Television for them to distribute, and it sounded like the film could be distributed to affiliates (on their request) in August. The makers of the documentary criticized this move saying this would ensure that it would not reach as wide an audience as if PBS itself had distributed it. Secondly, it would not be featured, as it was originally intended, as part of the “America At A Crossroads” series.

I just caught the tail end of “Islam vs. Islamists” on KBDI Channel 12 in Colorado. It was aired at 10pm MST. It’s an hour long, and John Hockenberry held a half-hour discussion afterward about it with an American Muslim who was featured in it, an American Muslim attorney with roots in Pakistan, and a representative of the Center for American Islamic Relations (CAIR). I did not watch the whole discussion, but what I saw was civil, and it seems there were some misunderstandings being discussed. I just checked KBDI’s schedule and it will be repeated at 3am MST, Sunday morning (Sept. 16). I’ll be sure to record it.

According to the site for the producers of this documentary, arrangements are being finalized so that people can buy the DVD, so you don’t have to wait for your PBS station.

These are good developments. I’m glad people are getting an opportunity to see it. After all, we helped pay for it.
